C.A.P.E.
(Coalition of Artists Performing for Education)
C.A.P.E. is a
non-profit educational organization, founded in 1999.
C.A.P.E provides
low cost, family oriented entertainment. The organizations' mission is
to offer a quality learning experience to young and/or new artists
through traditional and contemporary music, dance, theatrical
performances, networking, workshops, and music lore. We hope to provide
a comfortable, non-judgemental space for our artist and supporters.
C.A.P.E. emphasizes
traditional and modern folk music shows as well as other forms of
performing arts, such as: comedy, poetry, the spoken word and modern
music. It provides a "gym-like" atmosphere for young and/or
new artist to "exercise" their performance muscles, allowing
them a chance to develop in front of a supportive audience, while
introducing them to "Mentors" in their field of arts. Our hope
is to have these Mentors continue encouraging and supporting these
students by extending offers to debut at their performances outside of
C.A.P.E. and possibly provide musical accompanyment when they are unable
to accompany themselves.
C.A.P.E. also provides a venue for
performers who are not commercial enough for the more customary outlets,
allowing emerging artist a chance to try out their material, or a
talented artist, who may want to perform out with no intention of
"making it " as a professional, to share their talents.
C.A.P.E. performances are informal
concerts with a student feature, primarily from local schools
Southeastern Massachusetts and Cape Cod. The student gets a chance to
open for seasoned "Mentors" who may be a resource for further
development. Every third month is dedicated to a student concert/recital
involving 2 or more students from local schools in the area. with an
open mic stage in the between acts. Non-alcoholic refreshments are
served before the concerts and during the breaks.
C.A.P.E. performances are primarily
financed by an admission charge, collected at the door, and a modest
charge for refreshments, such as: cake, pies, brownies, cookies, that
have been donated. Featured artists are paid a small stipend.
Student artists receive no compensation. Open mic performers are unpaid
and register on the night of the show.
